Vectorcontrol and Santa Clara launched bioinsecticide Tarik EC in Brazil

Bioinsecticide Tarik EC was launched in Brazil last month. The product was produced through Bacillus thuringiensis of the variety kurstaki. With an emulsifiable concentrated formulation, the product is the result of a partnership between Santa Clara Agrociência and Vectorcontrol.

Registered under number 39,517 at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Tarik EC is indicated for the control of caterpillars within the program of integrated plague management. On soybean crops, for instance, the product can be used to combat Helicoverpa armigera.

The bioinsecticide is recommended against citrus fruit borer (Ecdytolopha aurantiana) on citrus, against corn earworm (Helicoverpa zea) on tomatoes, against geometrid moth (Thyrinteina arnobia), and against diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella) on cabbage.

In terms of advantages of the product, besides the low toxicity and excellent residual action, the maker highlighted being selective and not harming beneficial insects. The developers recommended Tarik EC for the period of early infestations and for the control of caterpillars until the third instar. Therefore, the bioinsecticide can be used for management resistance of traditional chemical products in the market.

During the presentation of the product, Santa Clara Agrociência highlighted that Tarik EC can be used in combination with special fertilizer Sulfeto SK, and once this product makes sure the caterpillar is evicted, it exposes the insect to the action of Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki.
